The Most Common Path: Doing Nothing at All

I’ve had a busy week; catching up from traveling to speak at a conference all last weekend, having a client annual business meeting on Monday evening, and working on winding down a big client engagement by the end of this month.

All are legitimate reasons why I haven’t posted much this week. But, even more accurate is the same reason why I’ve waited nearly three years to start this blog — it’s easier to do nothing at all.

On my flights to and from Denver last weekend, I reread Seth Godin’s book Tribes.  So much within that book resonates deeply with me, but one quote in particular has been reverberating within me over the past week — “The one path that never works is the most common one: doing nothing at all.”

It’s always safer to do nothing. No risk. No chance of failure. No welcome of opinion or critique from the outside world.

It’s also much easier. Nothing v. gut-check work. Hmmmmm….easy choice there. Would someone kindly pass the bon bons?

But, my Achiever beckons. And somewhere, Discipline can be stirred. Back to it.

What about you? What challenges you? Do you have goals or projects that intimidate the heck out of you?
